It was restored and modified between 1838 and 1843 by Jean-Baptiste Schwilgue, a Strasbourg watchmaker. However, a first clock, known as the “Three Kings”, existed from 1354. In the foreground, the celestial sphere represents the position of stars and constellations. In the background, the dial shows the times of sunrise and sunset in universal time, as well as the position of the Sun and the Moon around the Earth during the day (geocentric vision).
