Telephony in the 1950s. A woman working at a telephone switchboard as it's operator. A telephone communication system that was manually operated where the incoming calls were forwarded and redirected to the another telephone number by the operator, in this case locally within the building serving a company or an organization with many internal telephone lines. The switchboard operator could take messages, put you on hold if the line was busy. Sweden 1953. This picture is taken at a switchboard at a Stockholm Taxi company, connecting answering and connecting calls from customers and drivers. Sweden 1958
