The equipment contained in this portable set allows students to investigate the methods underlying techniques such as DNA fingerprinting. Restriction enzymes cut the DNA into fragments which are then separated and identified by electrophoresis. The kit uses disposable carbon-fibre tissue electrodes, an agraose gel and a nine-volt battery.
