Sailor Brad Van Liew, who became the first American to sweep all five legs of the 2002-2003 "Around Alone" single-handed sailboat race around the world, sails his boat Tommy Hilfiger Freedom America in New York Harbor, May 30, 2003. Van Liew, who won the last leg of the race on May 4, 2003 after sailing 4,015 miles from Brazil to Newport Rhode Island, spent a total of 148 days at sea racing over more than 28,000 miles of open ocean circumnavigating the globe by way of the five great capes.
