NGC 2442 is a barred spiral galaxy about 50 million light years away in the constellation Volans. This close - up Hubble view of the Meathook Galaxy (NGC 2442) focuses on the more compact of its two asymmetric spiral arms as well as the central regions. The spiral arm was the location of a supernova that exploded in 1999. These observations were made in 2006 in order to study the aftermath of this supernova. Jun. 06, 1953 - Coronation Choir to Sing in the U.S. Those unable to attend the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II will have an opportunity to see a small part of it when the coir who sang throughout the service in Westminster Abbey comes to the U.S. this fall on an eight weeks tour of the U.S. and Canada. The choir, known as the St. Paul's Cathedral Choir, which is made up of 30 boys and 18 men, will sing in cathedrals and concert halls in 40 of the larger cities, including Carnegie Hall, in New York. The tour will coincide with the building of the American Memorial Chapel in St. Paul's Cathedral to honour the 28,000 members of the U.S. armed forces who lost their lives while based in Britain during World War II. Brocchi's Cluster (also known as the Coathanger or Collinder 399) is an asterism located in the constellation Vulpecula. It was first described by the Persian astronomer Al Sufi in his Book of Fixed Stars in 964 and was independently rediscovered by Giovanni Hodierna in the seventeenth century. In the 1920s, D. F. Brocchi, an amateur astronomer and chart maker for the American Association of Variable Star Observers, created a map of this object for use in calibrating photometers.
