Death of Henry IV, 1413. The anxieties of his reign, and the disease from which he suffered made Henry IV determine to join in a Crusade, so that he might end his days in Jerusalem, as had been prophesied. His ships ready, Henry came to London to make final preparations. "There," in the words of the chronicler "he became so syke that they . . bare hym into the abbottes place . . He asked if that chambre had any specyall name, wherunto it was answeryd that it was named Hierusalem. Than seyd the Kynge: 'Nowe I know I shall dye in this chambre according to prophecye.'" Here occurred the famous scene of the removal of the crown by his son, immortalised by Shakespeare. Illustration for one a set of cards on Historical London, issued by Hignett's Cigarettes in 1926.
