Gundelfingen an der Donau, Bavaria, Germany Anna Stadler from Gundelfingen was the first German woman to be awarded the Order of the French Legion of Honor in 1959. During the Second World War, she looked after French prisoners of war in secret and helped some of them to flee shortly before the end of the war. The picture shows her at the railway embankment, where, during the war, she had hidden food for the prisoners under the thresholds.
