Image description

In memory of the Streeter couple, who died in a plane crash on 10 September 1937, a world conference of the Oxford movement took place in September 1938 in Interlaken in the Bernese Oberland. Burnett Hillman Streeter was a well-known Anglican New Testament scholar, rector of the Queen's Collage at Oxford and a leader of the Oxford movement. The two thousand representatives from more than forty countries see an urgent need to defend Christian values in society and nation through “Moral Armament” under the motto of the Conference: “A Huge Task - a Powerful God” in the face of a spreading capitalism and in the face of the advancing atheist communism in the world. Conference Topics John Ramsey, President of the Bethlehem Steel Works Union in Pennsylvania, representing 6,000 workers, said: “I see the Oxford Group as the way to turn our organization and our country into a single building front for peace according to God's plan”.
