Chromolithograph plates, the black frame with gilt lettering, published 1868-71 by The Arundel Society. Reproduced by the printers Hangard-MaugŽ from watercolour copies by Christian Schulz (1817-1883) of the van Eyck brothers' celebrated masterpiece in the cathedral of St Bavon, Ghent, executed c.1425-1432. Jan's brother Hubert (c.1385/90-1426) is credited with participation, his only undisputed extant work. The Just Judges panel (lower left panel when the altarpiece is open) was stolen in 1934 and its whereabouts are unknown. The Adam and Eve panels (upper left and right in the original) have been replaced here with varnished watercolours of Gothic 'window' details.
