Image description

A Cunarder (steamship) made up as a commercial ship during the First World War (1914-1918), during which period, following the idea of the artist Norman Wilkinson, the ships were repainted with large colored zigzags, in order to escape, under this camouflage, the surveillance of submarines (submarines) and looting ships, these designs gave them poor visibility and were adopted by numerous merchant fleets. Oil on cardboard, circa 1918, by Herbert Barnard John Everett (1876-1949).
