A set of custard pots on a tray, c.1780s-90s (pearlware)

Probably manufactured in Staffordshire, c.1780s-1790s. Pearlware artichoke-shaped custard pot and cover. The body of the pot, around which moulded leaves run in bands of ten, flares out from the foot-rim. The glaze on the base is crackled and has a blue-tinged ring inside the foot-rim. There are two vertical seams running up the body of the pot. The rim, the topmost level of leaves, stands proud of the circular lip of the pot. The tip of one of the leaves on the rim has been broken off and another leaf is chipped on the inside edge. The cover is similarly decorated with moulded leaves outlined in green, with a bud shaped finial, a ring of bluish glaze at its base. The rim of the cover is lobed, and there are accretions in the glaze on the underside of the rim and on a diagonal stroke on the surface of the cover.
