Meldon Park in Northumberland was the home of Isaac Cookson, a leading Tyneside glass and chemical manufacturer (and partner of William Cuthbert of Beaufront). His house is classical in style, a refined version of the many comparatively plain square houses Dobson had designed since the early 1820s. The watercolour shows how important the landscape setting was to Dobson's country houses. Most of them are set on terraces overlooking fine southerly views.
