Peter De Wint (1784-1849) View of a Harbour, about 1830-1840 Watercolour Height 25.3 x Width 64.7 cm TWCMS : C13461
This view is thought to show Whitehaven, in Cumbria. De Wint has depicted a working harbour, which was an unusual choice for a landscape view at the time. He was influenced by Thomas Girtin and John Varley, and was known for his atmospheric compositions. De Wint was based in the south of England, but made many sketching journeys around the country.
