HSU HSIN-LIANG IS ESCORTED BY FELLOW MEMBERS AFTER BEING HIT IN THE FACE BY PRO-TAIWAN INDEPENDENCE ACTIVISTS. Hsu Hsin-liang, who handed over his chairman post of Taiwan's main opposition Democratic Progressive Party to newly elected chairman Lin Yi-hsiung, is escorted by fellow members after he was hit in the face by pro-Taiwan independence activists following a chairmanship changeover ceremony in Taipei August 1. The activists claimed Hsu no longer supported independence of the island and punched him in the face. They were later arrested by police.
