The Albigenses of Carcassonne (litho)

The Albigenses of Carcassonne. There is no precise information as to the principles and moral practice of the Albigenses, but they certainly formed a party which was anti-sacerdotal and antagonistic to the Roman Church. The sect obtained its name from the town of Albi in South-Central France, where it was exceedingly strong, and in their missions the Roman Church had to submit to discussions with their Doctors. It is due to the Inquisition, which operated in Carcassonne and the neighbouring district, that the movement was finally crushed.
