Born Sultan Fateh Ali Sahab Tipu, Tipu Sultan (1750-99), ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore, was famously a pioneer of rocket artillery. The traditional costume of his infantry generally consisted of a 'Tyger Jacket', a long purple woollen shirt with white diamond formed spots on it and a red and white muslin turban to match the sash around his waist.
