Cobles are fishing boats traditionally used in the North East. At first they were sailing vessels, but later on many were equipped with engines. In the winter fishermen in the North East fished for cod with long lines baited with mussels. In the summer they caught salmon with nets. Larger cobles could go further out to sea to catch herring.
