DER MUSIK MACHT FREI paraphrase of the motto of Auschwitz on the cartouche found inside the “violin of the Shoah”, which belonged to the young violinist Eva Levi Segre, who was deported and died at 22 years old in the lager of Auschwitz. Forwarded to his brother Renzo (or Enzo, only one year younger), he survived, managing to bring him back with him in his difficult return to Italy, where he remained unused until the find by Carutti. Detail of the manifesto that integrates the setting up of “Le stanza della musica” at the Museo Civico di Cremona, ala Ponzone, collection of historical instruments by Carlo Alberto Carutti, section to celebrate memory of the First and Second World Wars and music as a tool of resistance and survival to the atrocities of war. The instrument, which is periodically used in celebratory concerts, has been on public display since the year that saw the twofold anniversary of Italy's entry into the first conflict, and the 70th anniversary of the end of the second: from Remembrance Day of 2015.
