Image description

Creator: Nicholas Denizot This half-length portrait shows the sitter turning slightly to the left. Dressed in black, he wears a black plumed hat with the Little George of the Garter pinned to it, and a brown beard. He has been set against a green background. Thomas Seymour took part in several expeditions against the French. He married Catherine Parr after Henry VIII's death, and was appointed Lord Admiral in 1547, which is about the time that this portrait is thought to have been painted. He was imprisoned and executed in 1549 for intriguing against his brother, Protector Somerset.
