Image description

The landscape around the Hohenzollern Redoubt, 1919 circa. Photograph, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1919 circa. The Hohenzollern Redoubt was a German defensive position at Auchy-les-Mines on the Loos front in France. Consisting of old slag heaps and mine shafts, it witnessed heavy fighting during the Battle of Loos in September-October 1915 and again in March 1916. From a group of 114 photographs relating to Captain Alan John Bowles, 2nd Battalion The Royal Berkshire Regiment.
