Comedy by Samuel Foote (1720-77) satirising ignorant art collectors and greedy art dealers; Lady Pentweazle is depicted sitting for her portrait; role played in 1776 by Foote at the Haymarket Theatre before King George III and Queen Charlotte; Lady Pentweazle, shown here, is the object of admiration of the artist, Mr. Carmine.
