Seville-Easter Week -James Dean poster Easter Week in Seville has existed since the 16th century, and is universally renowned. Nearly 50,000 people wear penitentious garb to march in the 58 or so processions that are organized, while the “costaleros” (porters) carry the pasos (altars) on their backs. Every day, there are processions in the afternoon and in the evening. Each confraternity leaves its church and establishes its own itinerary, but they all have to take the “carrera oficial”, a route that starts on Campana Street and ends with the confraternity's exit from the cathedral.
