Philippe Benoist after Adolphe Duperly. Image 6 ½ x 9 ½ in. (16.5 x 24.2 cm); sheet 11 1/8 x 16 5/8 in. (28.2 x 47.1 cm) Print of the Holland Estate from Adolphe Duperly's 'Daguerian Excursions in Jamaica.' The Holland Estate was a small sugar plantation in St Elizabeth. In the 1760s it was owned by Henry Cuniffe, and later by John Gladstone, father of William Gladstone. The estate had a two-and-a-half mile road edged with bamboo plants known as 'Bamboo Avenue.'
