Jul. 07, 1953 - The Home-Made” Tank” In Which Eight Czechs Broke Through The Iron Curtain.. Week after week for two years a young English mechanic in Pilsen, collected pieces of scrap iron and steel. Secretly at night he fashioned the crap into a replica of an armoured vehicle of the Czech-army.. Then-the construction tank completed and driving his own home made armoured car - he brought eight people to safety to the West - in one of the most amazing escapes from Czechoslovakia yet recorded.. They were escorted to the U.S. Military authorities. Keystone Photo Shows: - Mr. Uhlik and his home-made armoured car - after his” screening” by the U.S. Army authorities.
