British (English) School. Oil painting on canvas, Thomas Horton (1657-1699) of Barkesland, British (English) School, 17th century. The sitter is facing to the left in a painted oval wearing a lace cravat and a brown cloak. His coat of arms is pictured in the top right corner. An inscription runs around three sides of the painting as follows: 'Thomas Horton Esqr. Son of Wm Horton of Howroyd by Elizth his wife, sister and heir of John Clehill Esqr of Barkisland. Born about 1651, died 2nd Jany 1698/9. Mard Everilda Dar of John Thornhill of Fixby Esqr by Everilda his wife, Dar and co-heir og Sir Geo Wentworth of Wooley Knt. Had issue three Dars co-heiresses. Elizth Rich Bold Esqr, Susanna Md Rich Beaumont of Lasalls Hall Esqr. Anne died unmd 19 april 1750.' His daughter Susannah married Richard Beaumont. Ormesby Hall, Redcar and Cleveland (Accredited Museum)
