Description de l'image

Sheikh Abdullah Abdul Karim holds his hand on forehead of an elderly Iraqi woman as he treats her by reading verses from the Koran in his office in suburban Baghdad September 16, 2002. Sheikh Abdullah and his companion Sheikh Firas Al Aubaidy claim they have great success in treating large number of seriously ill people from the Arab world of all religions by reciting verses from the Koran and making medicines from herbs in accordance with the religion. Twelve years after United Nations imposed sanctions to Iraq, punishing the oil-rich country for invading Kuwait, country's helth system, once best in the region, and infrastructure are in ruins, forcing Iraqis to search for other ways of medical help and come to Sheikh Abdullah's office in larger numer.
