The Siege of Carmarthen Castle, 1145. Following the capture of Carmarthen Castle by Howell the Tall in 1145, the Franks and Flemings returned in a great host to retake it. But Meredith, who commanded, had few to defend the walls, and the besiegers brought up scaling ladders on every side. But having climbed to within reach of the embrasures, they were hurled back again and again, and were finally compelled to raise the siege.
