Sowar, Madras Cavalry, 1835 circa. Gouache on mica by a Company artist, Trichinopoly, 1835 circa. In 1835 there were ten regiments of light cavalry on the strength of the Madras Army, all of whom wore blue uniforms with orange facings (apart from the 5th Light Cavalry who had black facings). From a set of 61 paintings showing the different occupations of India.
