Dorchester Point Copied from an actual survey [centre; legend with no cartouche]. Boston at top. Castle William Island lower right. Dotted positions on Dorchester Point with the legend "Shows where the Rebels have a guard." Abrown ink drawing. This map was probably drawn before the American fortifications of Dorchester in 1776; the British withdraw upon its fortifications. Between 4-17 March 1776, George Washington built redoubts (not mentioned on this map) which forced Howe's withrawal of British troops from Boston by making it untenable. Burgoyne had earlier urged the British to fortify it, but in vain.
