ARGENTINE PILOT BARCELLA GIVES PRESSER AFTER RETURNING FROM FALKLANDS, 1998-06-19 (photo)

Argentine pilot Ernesto Barcella gives a press conference late June 18 in the airport of this southern Argentine city upon landing following his release by British forces in the disputed Falkland Islands where he flew on a solo flight three days earlier. Barcella, who caused a brief diplomatic headache for Britain and Argentina as Argentine passport holders are not allowed on the Falklands, was detained there as an illegal immigrant after flying his small plane to the islands with gifts of tea and oranges in what he considered a gesture of "friendship" dedicated to the Argentine troops who died in the 1982 war with Britain.
