At an event of the Spanish Communist Party (Partido Comunista de Espana) in Madrid during the siege of the city. Stalin's portrait was supposed to express the need of the troops of the republic for support by the Soviet Union. In addition to the portait, Stalin quotes translated into Spanish also express the solidarity of the Soviet Union for Spain.
