A senior physician, presumably Dr. Huck, awards a wounded German soldier the Iron Cross 2nd class together with a certificate. During the encirclement battle of Kholm the "Kampfgruppe Scherer" successfully defended the town for 105 days. (PK photo by the war correspondent Richard Muck who flew into the pocket at the beginning of March).
