V’iew of Sevastopol from the British Siegeworks, the Sailor's Battery and the Lancaster Gun Battery, 1855’. The scale of the most important features in this panoramic view - the Russian defences of the Redan and the Malakhov, and the British and French advanced works at the Quarries and the Mamelon respectively - have of course been exaggerated, but the depiction nevertheless conveys a sense of the siege’s impending climax as the long summer of 1855 wore on.
