William Shakespeare is an English playwright, actor and poet, who was born in Stratford-upon-Avon on 23.4. (baptized on 25.4. ) 1564, he died on 23.4. 1616. His background and his life are largely unknown. Previously assumed details regarding his life (father a member of the glove makers guild in Stratford, marriage in 1582) were not yet confirmed by recent research. Starting 1589 he stayed in London, from 1594 he belonged to the theater group the Chamberlain's Men (since 1603 King's Men), where he remained during his entire theatrical career. In 1599 he became partner in the Globe Theatre, in 1608 the partnership also took over the Blackfriars indoor theatre. Around 1612 he moved to Stratford, around 1613 he retired from the theater. During his lifetime he enjoyed high reputation. The continuing international impact of his oeuvre makes him an exceptional figure in world culture. William Shakespeare
