TRIBAL REBEL SURRENDERS ARMS IN CHITTAGONG HILL TRACTS, 1998-03-05 (photo)

Jagadish Chakma (2nd R), a tribal rebel in Bangladesh's southeastern Chittagong Hill Tracts surrenders his weapon to Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Mosharraf Hossain (3rd L) March 5. The tribal rebels gave up their arms for amnesty under a treaty signed December 2 which ends nearly 25 years of insurgency in the 14,200 square kilometre (5,500 square mile) Hill Tracts bordering India and Myanmar.
