Killer whale orca in Antarctica. Melting of the poles. Antarctica is the continent that suffers most from global warming, and krill are disappearing. Antarctica registers a record temperature of 18.3 °C. These abnormally warm temperatures cause the continent to melt by leaps and bounds. The greatest reductions in sea ice will occur in areas where most krill, a crustacean essential for the life of seals, penguins, sea lions and whales, are concentrated. Since the early 1900s, many glaciers around the world have been melting rapidly. Human activities are the cause of this phenomenon. Specifically since the industrial revolution, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions have increased temperatures, causing temperature rises, which are much larger at the poles.
