1887//Oil on canvas Alexander Glazunov (1865-1936) was at the same time an important Russian composer, conductor and pedagogue. It was his great admirer and patron, the music publisher Mitrofan Belayev, who commissioned Repin's portrait of Glazunov. The painter, who frequents the evenings of the “Belayev Circle”, knows the musician well, of whom he makes several drawn portraits. A fervent lover of Repin, Glazunov used, in his first masterpiece in 1885, the symphonic poem Stenka Razine, a famous traditional song evoking hauls. He also dedicated his Oriental Rhapsody for large orchestra to him in 1889.
