Image description

Spain, Andalusia, Granada. Charles V Palace. Its construction was ordered by the emperor Charles V due to the need for a place that met all the comforts of the time for the emperor and his family. The architect Pedro Machuca (c.1490-1550) began the works in 1527. Juan de Herrera designed the main cover on this facade, modifying Machuca's plan, with three linteled openings in the lower body, smaller on the sides than the central one, and another three of the same size in the upper body framed between Doric columns and with medallions with reliefs above them. Architectural detail of the western side facade, considered the main entrance of the building. Doric style, with four groups of double fluted columns and medallions framed in serpentine stone.
