Reprinting of Lincoln's proclamation of 7 July 1864 calling for a day of prayer for the people of the United States in order to bring about the end of the Civil War and the continuation of the Union. Printed again by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the Governor John A. Andrew calling again for the first Thursday of August to be designated the day of prayer. Requests that this be published and sent out to communities. This copy was mailed to Rev. Edward P. Hale at Milton. Address and Andrew Jackson postage stamp on verso.
