Pub scene in St. Pauli, 1958 (b/w photo)

Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany The picture was taken for the article "Unser Wunderland bei Nacht" (Our wonderland at night) by the journalist Stefan Roon, which was published in the Muenchner Illustrierte (1958, no. 51). During his stay in Hamburg Roon accompanied two plainclothes police officers on their tour of St. Pauli. They went in search of criminals in pertinent pubs. The picture shows one of the places they visited, a supposed meeting place of criminals. A multi-part TV movie was shot on the basis of the article in 1959 bearing the same title, which was to show the dark side of the cities of Germany.
