Notting Hill Gate, looking eastwards from Campden Hill Towers. Photograph taken on Eastman High Contrast Positive 5363 (35mm) B&W film. A motion picture film designed for direct contact copying titles and mats in motion picture work. However, in animation before video, it was appropriated for shooting cartoon animation line tests. The beauty of it was that you could develop it quickly in the darkroom under a red light. Hang it up to dry and have it ready to show the animator in a relatively short time, say 20 minutes. Though this film had extremely little tonal latitude. When I was a cameraman it was fun to put some of this specialist movie film in a still stills camera and experiment with it. It not really designed for that purpose but nevertheless can produce an interesting look or feel I think.
