Bridge over the Kabul River, 1878 circa. Photograph, 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880), 1878 circa. During the Afghan campaign, the Bengal Sappers and Miners and Madras Sappers and Miners of the Peshawar Valley Field Force laid this bridge across the Kabul River. The engineers’ other tasks during the campaign included road-making, building posts on the line of communication, camp and fort construction, laying telegraph lines and surveying. The Kabul River rises in the Sanglakh Range in eastern Afghanistan and flows past Kabul city into the North West Frontier. From album of 46 photographs, 1880.
