Palaces held by Generals Outram’s and Havelock’s Troops. Lithograph from ‘General Views and Special Points of Interest of the City of Lucknow’, a series of 27 coloured lithographs by R M Bryson, E Walker, F Jones after Lieutenant-Colonel D S Dodgson, published by Day and Son, 1 September 1860. This image was made just after the British recaptured Lucknow in March 1858. The tents to the right belonged to soldiers from the Rifle Brigade. The Residency, with its two towers, can be seen just beyond the palaces. On the opposite bank of the River Gumti is the Dil Aram, a palace behind which the mutineers positioned a large gun battery.
