3rd County of London Yeomanry, ‘Ready to move from Worthing to the final concentration area’, Operation OVERLORD, 1944. Photograph by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1944. Prior to D-Day, Sherman tanks of 3rd County of London Yeomanry in Worthing in Sussex. The crew of the front tank have waterproofed their vehicle. They are (left to right), Gordon Tidey, Jack Archer, Bert Howe, Alan Murray, Tom Welbourn. The regiment was stationed in Worthing from February 1944 until it was sent to Portsmouth on 4 June for embarkation to Normandy. From an album containing 210 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, North West Europe (1944-1945).
