Sword belonging to Brigadier General John Jacob, 1857 circa. Jacob's sword is similar to the pattern 1857 Royal Engineers Officer’s sword. It has the new fullered blade (with a longitudinal groove) used on both heavy cavalry swords and more akin to that used, in brass, for Royal Engineer officers after 1857. The blade is inscribed to the Bombay Artillery and the Scinde Irregular Horse. Jacob, then a lieutenant, was appointed to command the Scinde Irregular Horse on 5 January 1842.
