Image description

On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Marked inside folder, (1) bottom left and (2) bottom right. Tunnel from New Bond Street passed from left to right through the cellar of no.1 (11 Seneschal Lane), behind the two small houses, centre, and through the cellar of no.2 (3 St. Barnabas Square) in a curve- in at the south side and out at the back, thence north and with the other tunnel which ended under the cellar of Mother Pratt's big house in Laxey Inn Yard, both tunnels disappearing under the yard wall at the west end of St. Barnabas Church in the direction of the south side of the Tower. [Plan sketched on back of folder and with the following] - The passage after going under the big house, 11 Seneschal Lane, missed the two small houses and entered the cellar of no.3 St. Barnabas Square, passing out at rightangles (west) and proceeding as the east branch under St. Barnabas Church. Mr. James Lindsay informed me (Apr 24/40) that this passage actually entered and left the cellars of these two houses."
