Ellan Vannin Arms, Durie House and Durie Lane, Douglas, Isle of Man, 1932-34 (b/w photo)

On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Ellan Vannin Arms, Durie House, and Durie Lane, and the old 'Hare and Hounds' Inn'. The whitewashed house (R), next to the Hare & Hounds, was a self-contained oblong. The 'Hare & Hounds' extended through to Durie Lane a large house at the rear, and the Lancashire Inn, next beyond is larger still; the rear protruding past the house in Durie Lane, and joining with the Durie house boundary. When these houses were taken down, I noticed that there was a hidden yard some 10 or 12 feet square that served the Hare & Hounds, and possibly, the white-washed house adjoining."
