On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Sixth of cellar. Douglas Fort Inventory continued: 'In the Great Sellar / (most probably this, under the Picat Loft.) / 4 oak polls / Door lock key & bolt / In the Midle Sellar / 6 Dayles / 6 poles / Door lock & key / In the Closet in the Court House / old bedstead / In the Yard / oak plank / Lying in Towne 1 wrecked piece of oak cont. 36 foot solid timber.'" Additional notes: "1797 Letter of officer in charge of Douglas Fort to a friend. He mentions two guns (only) as the armament of the Fort. (Proofs - Drama Section - Mr Wm Cubbon): Shewing flooring boards of front room laid on crown of cellar arch. Filling in the last of the cellar. Couds of lime dust arising there from, and the air thick with it."
