To Isaac Pickering Esqr of Fox Lease Hants this plan of Tortola from actual survey by George King'. 104 plantations, coloured on the plan, with their principal crops. A slave-owner in Trinidad and the Virgin Islands, Pickering's landholdings are the largest. In 1790, the first notable uprising in the Virgin Islands centred on his estates in 1790. It was quickly put down and ring leaders executed. The revolt was sparked by the rumour that freedom had been granted to slaves in England, but that the planters were withholding knowledge of it.
