Head study for Bacchus, which Rubens used repeatedly for his paintings. Thus we find the head on Bolswert's engraving "The Drunken Bacchus" reproduced almost exactly, as in the Eremitage painting "The Drunken Silenus". Chalk drawing on gray green nature paper, heightened with white.
Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640); Flemish School
Wien, Gerlach & Schenk. Verlag für Kunst und Kunstgewerbe.
